It was Snow White and the Seven Robots that started my Far Out Fairy Tales obsession. I’ve now got in my hot little hands all of the other graphic novels in this series that my library currently own (until I beg them to buy the rest). Because of my love of the Snow White retelling I was excited to see what strangeness and wonder Goldilocks would offer. Comparing this book to the Snow White one I was disappointed. It’s still entertaining and I know I shouldn’t compare but I was glad I found Snow It was Snow White and the Seven Robots that started my Far Out Fairy Tales obsession. Because of my love of the Snow White retelling I was excited to see what strangeness and wonder Goldilocks would offer. Comparing this book to the Snow White one I was disappointed. It’s still entertaining and I know I shouldn’t compare but I was glad I found Snow White first because I doubt Goldilocks and the Three Vampires would have ignited a new obsession. The three vampires didn’t make me want to sink my teeth (sorry!) into the story as their personalities were about as dead as they were. Goldilocks was more interesting and thankfully she was smart but she was a bit too much of a know it all to make me warm to her. I kind of wanted to vampires, or at least the spiders, to triumph in the end. The story itself was fun. Goldilocks is on an Indiana Jones style adventure with her very own flying arrow death trap to navigate along the way. Goldilocks is a crypt cracker and the National Museum has sent her to study a tomb rumoured to have treasures hidden by King Arthur inside. She has to use her smarts and some gymnastic ability to survive three death traps before stumbling upon the homes of three vampires. I loved C.S. Jennings’ illustrations, particularly the various expressions of the vampires and the massive spiders. The glossary and questions about the story are great extras at the end. The section at the end outlining the main differences between the original story and this Far Out version are very helpful. I hadn’t actually picked up on the three traps correlating to the original Goldilocks trying out the porridge, chairs and beds. While there wasn’t anything specifically wrong with this graphic novel, with vampires 🧛‍♀️ 🧛‍♂️ 🧛‍♂️ , spiders 🕷 and an archaeological expedition, I was looking for a wow factor that I didn’t find.

What a fun mash-up! Goldilocks is a tomb raider/Indiana Jones type explorer. The three bears have been replaced with vampires. It is a graphic novel instead of a basic story book. The art style is decent. I really enjoyed this one. I will have to see if the library has others in the "Farout Fairy Tales" series.

Hih!

Goldilocks is an adventurer working for a museum. She's about to explore a crypt that no one has ever been able to get into before. As she maneuvers the traps and records her findings for the museum, Goldilocks gets the feeling that she isn't alone. Definitely the most unique Goldilocks and the Three Bears retelling I've ever come across. The patterns are a little more complex, as fits an older reader, and the setting and twists on the original tale are extremely imaginative. If you're looking at how modern writers put new spins on old tales this would be a good one to study with middle school or high school as it isn't too long and it is a little more challenging to figure out what are parallels with the original tale. And of course, it is a fun not-really-scary vampire tale/adventure story graphic novel that's great for reluctant middle grade readers. Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content. Some perilous situations and lots of spiders, but no one really gets hurt.

Goldilocks and the Three Vampires is a fun twist on the known fairy tale 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. I thought it was cute that Goldilocks was an archaeologist/Indiana Jones tomb raider. I also thought it was funny that the vampires ended up being King Arthur, Elizabeth I and Robin Hood. That's just silly! I think both boys and girls will get a kick out of reading this funny, short, fractured tale.

Goldilocks has definitely changed from the original story. She's now a famous explorer and has cracked the code to enter King Arthur's tomb. She's met by three vampires -Queen Elizabeth I, King Arthur, Robin Hood. She defeats them along with some very creepy spiders and escapes from the tomb. Terrific questions and comparisons at the end for readers to think about.

I likes that Goldilocks was an adventurer but something was off with this one. Dare I say too far out there? I really wanted to like this one too, with vampires of King Arthur, Queen Elizabeth and Robin Hood. Overall wasn't as good as some of the others in this series.
